About the Faculties of Health

Excellence in health sciences teaching

clinical nursing postgrad

The Faculties of Health - Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery and Pharmacy - form what is arguably the largest and most comprehensive consortium of health profession educators and health-related researchers in the southern hemisphere.

The University of Sydney has a long history of student-centred, innovative teaching and learning across the health sciences. The faculties of Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy were each the first of their kind in Australia and, like the faculties of Health Sciences and Nursing & Midwifery, all continually strive to strengthen their curricula and their methods of admission, assessment and teaching.

Excellence in health sciences research

researcher

Our researchers collaborate extensively with area health services, independent institutes and with industry, locally and internationally, enabling them to pursue a remarkable range of research activities.

There are more than fifty research institutes and foundations across the five faculties. University of Sydney researchers, the vast majority from the Faculties of Health, last year won 90 National Health and Medical Research Council 2008 Project Grants worth $43.2 million, including a $7.5 million grant for clinical trials, plus six new NHMRC Fellowships.
